On one hand, I could stop the Aveyond series and focus on more Grimm's Hatchery-type games, but gosh darn it, I love Aveyond! On the other hand, I could keep making monolith Aveyond games and barely make enough to pay the developers, artists, musician, and myself. Does this help you understand my predicament? I must also add that a game like Grimm's Hatchery costs me 1/2 the money to create and does twice as well. While other, smaller casual games like Grimm's Hatchery (6-8 hours long) take me around 6 months to create, each Aveyond game (25-40 hours long) takes around 1-1 1/2 years to create. I do hope that you will not disregard this idea until you've had a chance to play the demo for the second book (especially if you've finished the first book).įor me Aveyond has a been a huge labor of love. and that you'll take a leap of faith that the book series idea might be a good thing for all of us. I just played the first two Aveyond games again, the other week, and enjoyed them thoroughly.Īnd, frankly, I think that we Game Club members here at Big Fish get a bargain every time we buy a game! You can't get this much entertainment for $6.99 anywhere else in this world, for sure. For the first 2 Aveyond games, go to to get a walkthrough, and read the forums here for those games, and you'll pick up a lot of hints and tricks that will help you play the game (like finding out in Aveyond: Rhen's Quest where the Cash Cow is! That is awesome!). Gojojogo, I think that when you get used to the games and how they play, you'll be able to enjoy them more. However, the game play is the same quality as the previous Aveyond games. That makes it harder to accumulate money and saleable things. I also wish that they had not put in the Normal and Expert levels that some of the beasties do not regenerate when you come back to an area after having been there before.
But that just means I spend more time slaying beasts over and over again and leveling up so that the group can accumulate more money. I am not happy that I seem to be encountering more and more "you search the corpse but find nothing" than in the previous two games, and it is very hard (in the Normal level) to accumulate enough money to buy the supplies the group needs to stay alive. For the most part, though, I'm enjoying the game. I feel a little surprised by this, myself. Perhaps part of the problem is that not all of us follow the forums over at Amaranthia, and did not know that this was the plan for this game - to be released in "chapters." If that had been played up more in other venues, we would have known ahead of time and people could have been able to make an informed decision as to whether to buy the games or not. For 7 bucks I expect 1.5 to 2 hours of entertainment, any longer or any replay value is a bonus! (this is not meant as an encouragement to put the prices up ) Yes it does feel odd to be paying more for something than you have before, but I am for sure in the camp that would rather have a new shorter game coming out more often rather than waiting years between releases. But right now I am finding it a bit of a slog/chore, but also strangely addictive like Puzzle QuestĪs for value for money, wow, how much does a cinema ticket cost nowadays, and how much entertainment do you get for your money? Books as well? Even cable TV.
Maybe this is because I am not great at these games, takes me a long time to work out what is what and I have chosen a high encounter rate so spend a lot of time been attacked. I have to say that for me they are too long! I feel daunted that I have been playing for 30 hours and I think I am just about half way through and certainly not completed all the missions I could have done so far. I've played the 1st Aveyond game and currently I am playing 3 stars of destiny.
